November :)

After watching a video about Peace and talking a little bit about peace means, we created this piece of Art work using masking tape, paint and one of the many symbols of Peace. We then wrote about what it means to us.

The children have also been REALLY enjoying the Pigeon series of book by Mo Willems. They have been engaged in making their own books, using the original to either copy from or gain ideas to create their own stories.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and remember that Friday is a P.A. Day!

Happy October!

The children have really been in the spirit of Halloween and Fall activities!
This week we made stained glass leaves using tissue paper and transparent paper. We also made cinnamon smelling orange play dough. We carved a pumpkin, scooped out the seeds and compared the difference in the size of seeds. Since one pumpkin was bigger, we noticed that the seeds were bigger  than the smaller pumpkin. We left them out to dry and used them for our pumpkin craft.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Be a rainbow when skies are cloudy!

Last week we had the great honour of having a good friend of mine and teacher join us for a few hours in the morning to help us transform one of our learning environments into a great inquiry space!
After reading the book, 'The Colour Monster,'
the children were really interested in the feelings associated with different colours. They would draw faces with expressions in the corresponding colour and bring it to show me. I would then sit with them and help them label. Because this story did not mention the colour orange and purple, we decided collectively what we felt those colour portrayed. The children thought purple should reflect hunger and orange should reflect excitement.

I brought out some mural paper and we painted a rainbow, which we later hung up on the wall and labelled. We have been exploring the topics of colour, emotions/feelings ever since and have learned a lot about recognizing expression.
