Fine Motor Skills

From the first days of life, children begin using their bodies to learn about the world around them. As they continue to mature, their reliance on physical interactions with people and objects remains strong. This is why your child’s fine motor development is a very important part of their physical skill set. Children need to learn to use their hands competently in order to manipulate toys and to acquire self-help skills like eating food and getting dressed.

We try to provide as many opportunities as possible for the children in our class to develop fine motor skills. Here are some examples:

Making and using playdough is a fantastic way to strengthen fine motor muscles. We try to make new playdough every other week, changing the colour of it and the tools/decorations we put out.
