After discussing and watching videos on how polar bears keep warm, we decided to do an experiment for a hands on experience. Mrs. Ansari prepared a bag full of shortening and then filled up a container with icy water. The children took turns dipping their hands in the cold water with their bare hand and with the ziploc bag filled with shortening. They learned that blubber is what keeps the polar bears warm and that the shortening was the pretend blubber.
We will continue to explore Polar Bears and other Arctic animals and see what
journey our learning takes us on!
