Playing gives children the chance to practice what they are learning...

As we develop more of a comfort with running self regulated staggered entry, we have set up a morning question for the children to answer by signing their name on the appropriate side to answer the question. This has been quite purposeful in reviewing new vocabulary, counting in stable order and in developing their writing skills, as you can see in the following pictures:

This week we made some Halloween coloured playdough
and made some cute little pumpkins out of it

We have been proud of some of the things we have made using the natural materials in our room.

We are getting ready for tomorrow!!!

We will be carving these tomorrow! Cannot wait to see what they will look like! :)

Our Coloured Rice Experiment!

Today we coloured rice for our sensory bins. We added a couple of drops of food colouring to ziploc bags filled with rice and a teaspoon of vinegar.
Here's how they turned out:

Waiting for everyone's bag to be filled with rice...
Mushing the bag together to spread out the colour...
 Almost there...
Switching bags with some of our friends...
 Ta-da!!

And here is the final product!!! Stay tuned to see what else we create with this:)

"The Expert In Anything, Was Once a Beginner."

This week we discovered that some of the children in our class are fascinated with kites and airplanes. So, we looked into it further and suggested we make our own! We had an open discussion and asked the children what we would need to build a kite. We watched a YouTube video of a person making one and talked about the different ways we could make one. We decided that those who were interested, would put together a list of materials and we would make them and then bring them outside on a windy day to see if they would fly. We are still brainstorming and collecting materials we will need. Stay tuned for further progress on our kite inquiry!

We are becoming more responsible and learning how to take care of the plants in our class by watering them everyday!

In our building centre this week, a lot of wonderful things have been made! Here are a couple of examples of structures the children have built together.

This castle the girls build was then connected to what they said was a forest with trees (leaves on top of the trees), a river running through and grass. Mrs. Ansari and I were very impressed with the level of imagination these children we able to extend upon. Way to go!
This picture was taken on 'Purple Day'!
Thank you for participating in this, we had a great turnout! :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Our Tech Savy Kids!

For the past few weeks we have been visiting the computer lab. Some of the children had never used a computer before and here they are mastering the skill of using a mouse to click on and navigate through games.

We have also been talking about patterns and introduced the concept of what makes a pattern this week. We made a centre out of plastic connectors and the children in our class made some wonderful and very creative things out of them.

**Just a reminder that TOMORROW is Purple Day!! Remember to wear any purple clothes you may have** :)
